Comments: Hi there. Presently researching my husband's
family and his Bagnall greatgrandmother is proving elusive.
She was born c1890 in Middlesex, England to parents; George
Bagnall (Born c1847 in St. Pancras) and Sarah Harris (Born
c1842 in Oxford). In 1890 she married to Herbert Paget Drake.
My problem? I cant seem to find her birth record anywhere.
I would welcome contact with anyone with Bagnalls in the greater
London area.

Comments: Stuart, thank you for your page of Bagnall's
and thank you for the Christmas Greeting and Bagnall Hall
in winter. We (my wife Sylvia and our 3 boys, then aged about
11, 12, 13) visited Bagnall in 1984. It was the only 'real'
English village we saw! (According to imagined our stereotype.)
Hope to get back there some day. I still have to scan Bagnall
Village photos into my boutique photo library that is behind
the URL above. My father, Graham Bagnall, was working on a
history of our branch of the NZ Bagnall's when he died in
1984. We had hand set and printed about 20 pages at that time
but have unfortunately been unable to finish it, largely because
the manuscript was being written as we set and printed! But
someday we bring the project to an (incomplete) close. Dorothy
Bagnall, in Auckland, has produced a detailed account of the
other collection of Bagnalls. Both lines go back to the Black
Country and the history on this site. Charles Wellington,

Comments: My Mother's maiden name was Bagnall. I have
traced the Bagnall family in Dublin to John Bagnall who died
about 1849. He owned two businesses Dublin. We think his Father's
name was Robert? My line is directly from one of his sons,
George Smyth Bagnall b. 1805 in Dublin, he moved to Frampton,
Quebec in about 1835, from thence the Bagnall family, many
of them, came to Jacksonport, Wisconsin, Door County. One
of George's brother's was "Thomas Bagnall he had a daughter
named Ann Bagnall and she married aThomas Prescott in Dublin.
I would love to find a living descendant of the Prescott line
in Dublin. We were told that the Bagnall family originall
came from Stafordshire, but we have no proof. I have had Brian
Smith do some research but not much there, excetp the marriage
of Ann Bagnall to Thomas Prescott in about 1849. Nice to hear
the name Bagnall. thank you so much, Max Andrae

I am looking for information regarding my ggreat grandfather,
John Bagnall. He was born about 1782. He and his first wife,
Uriah Beach married on oct. 31, 1813 at St. Thomas Parish
in Dudley, Worcestershire, Enfland. They moved to Brockmoor,
Staffordshire, England in 1814. A daughter, Hannah was born
on Sept. 29, 1814 and was christened at Brierly Hill Chapel
in Kingswindford Parish. John's history then jumps to 1823
in Newton-Upon-Ayr, Scotland where he worked as a collier.
He has two children, John & Mary by Mary Lilburn Bagnall
in 1823 & 1825. He was killed in the mine Oct. 9, 1826.
If anyone has information that would help me trace geneology
beyond him I would be grateful. Ila Bagnell/Devereaux IDev13@aol.com

Hi. Thank you for the information on your website. I have
been thinking of researching our family tree and this has
given me added incentive. I don't know a lot of my family
history other than my grandfather William Bagnall came over
to Canada from England. Since my grandfather passed away while
I was still quite young, I never got to hear any stories of
where he was from. He married Emma Anderson in Saskatchewan,
Canada, moved to Thunder Bay Ontario. They had 2 sons, Donald
and Lloyd. Donald had 4 children, Richard, Elaine, Sharon
and Rory. Lloyd had 2 children, Stuart and Scott. I would
be interested in hearing from anyone who may be related, or
who can give me direction on how to research my family history.
Thanks again. |

well where do i start? On info from my parents, my grandparents
originate from Derbyshire/Stoke/Yorkshire area, but it has
been researched that, going further back, we partook in the
wars between French/Eire as Sir Henry Bagnall, - does that
mean anything to anyone?. Apparently we were very "important"
in Eire at one point, actually owning a very sizeable chunk
of Eire. Believe - typical of my luck - that we had to flee
Eire and lost our papers on the crossing over therefore losing
our ownership of our land in Eire. Anyone know anything about
what i have said?. This was given to me as 2nd hand info many
yrs ago when I was young. Another possibility for the fleeing
from Eire was that a relative that settled on Stoke-on-Trent
area had become pregnant by a squire from Eire - not something
that was "done" in those days. Anybody any ideas on this (apparently,
over the top, but told as believed true)story |

Hello fellow Bagnell/Bagnall's. Searching for THOMAS BAGNELL,
born around 1821. We know he ended up in Canada and married
Jerusha Tapley in 1853. Have just come back from Bagnall in
Staffordshire. Very pretty village. Local pub very welcoming
and good food,(although the choice of music left something
to be desired). Managed to speak to the landlady that had
held the Stafford Arms for 25 years, but she was unable to
tell us much about the history of Bagnall. All she could say
was that a family by the name of Grindon owned a lot of land
and had been there for generations. Had a walk around the
cemetary, only found 3 headstones with the name Bagnell, but
unfortunately not linked to out Thomas. Enough of the rambling,
we didn't find what we were looking for. Should anyone know
of THOMAS BAGNELL born around 1821 we should love to hear
from you. |

Great site. I learned a great deal..... I am a Bagnell by
marriage. The line that I now belong to came to Gabrus, Nova
Scotia in 1750's with General Wolfe for the second battle
of Fort Louiseburg, when the English took the fort from the
French. The men that fought were then allowed to claim land
to settle. Our people went south of the fort to a inlet now
called Gabrus. The family has always lived there until my
father-in-law left there at the end of WWII to go to Toronto
Ontario. When he was young , he said that all the families
on his street were called Bagnells, not all of them were close
relastions.........I will be back to your site again. |

ANY information concerning William Bagnall b. Scotland, m
5 Apr 1846 in Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland to Jane Grant dau.

1850. He was a baker/confectioner who had various bakery shops
in Richmond, VA. He and Jane had 3 children- Robert Grant
b. 1847 in Scotland, Christina Fisher, b. Va married Thomas
MacNamee, and William M.,Jr. who died 1887. William died 1880
and is buried in Hollywood cemetery in Richmond; Jane died
in Richmond in 1917 and is buried in Baltimore, where son
Robert had moved. There are several Bagnalls in Richmond in
Richmond at the time the family lived there. All were in the
bakery business, and lived with or near to Wm and Jane. Some
of their names include John C., James and wife Ann E., and
Robert and wife Jessie. We have no proof as to the relationship
of these people, but feel they are related in some way. ANY

I have been directly related to i.e Uncles, cousins etc, and

idea about my Family line, as I am completely unaware my origins,
it would seem though, that there are not too many of us up

Interesting and hopefully rewarding site. My mother, nee Lyle
Bagnall, b.1892 Cannock, Staffordshire told me in about 1938,
that her grdfthr. James, b.1843, Betley, Cheshire, told her
that family name was deBagenhal or deBagenholt, traceable
to Sir Rafe deBagenhal of Staffordshire. Bagnall family lived
in Betley from approx.1400. Name was evolved from deBagenhal
or deBagenholt to deBagnall about 1400. I'll be pleased to
hear from any "Betley Bagnall's" or others who may be linked.

I am searching for relatives of my father Stephen Richard
Bagnall 1897-1961, whose father was also Stephen Richard Baganll
1863-1928. My grandfather arrived in Australia with, I think
about 5 siblings probably in early 1870's after the death
of his parents in an accident in Dublin, Ireland. A sister
of his Elizabeth (born 1855) married John O'Duffy and remained
in Dublin Ireland. The family who came to Australia was I
think, Thomas, Henry, Jane, Margaret, and Delphina and my
grandfather Stephen. I think my great-grand father was Henry
Francis Bagnall who was married to Catherine (Kate) Brereton
in 1855. Can anyone in the "Bagnall" family connected to any
of these names - it would be great to hear from you.

Hi I live just outside of Exeter down in Devon, UK. Not
many Bagnalls down this end of the country, but my Dad can
count for me and I can count for two son's I think! (well
they are good looking boys so they got to be Bagnalls right!)
looking for a new wife to increase the stock lol.

I grew up in Bagnall village from1932 to 1948 I have been
back sorry that the school burnt down. During the war we
had evacues and had to go to school in shifts as we did
not have enough room for everyone. My childhood was wondeerful
growing up there, and able to roam freely with my friends.

Born in Manchester and emigrated to New Zealand in 1973.
My Grandfather, Frank Bagnall was born in Staffordshire,
but dont know any more than that. Brought my wife and 3
children to the village in the 1990's and we have many pictures
of it including one of us all in front of the Post Office
Was very good to find your 'roots' so to speak.
