Randle Bagnall was born in Penkridge in 1805 and died there only two months short of his 87th birthday in the same house as his sister, just a few hours after her on 4 January 1891.

A simple statement of fact until you read the entry published in the Staffordshire Advertiser on 10 January 1891 (see below) and gain an insight into Randle's hard but simple dedicated life, and the respect in which he was held.

His headstone still stands in Penkridge churchyard, next to that of his only son George who came to an untimely end when as the stationmaster of Saddleworth railway station, Yorkshire he was run down by a train.
